FIRST-EVER EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW : Vin’s Look Book

Hello readers : )

This time I decided to do something completely different to what I’ve been doing on this blog so far. This post is my very first INTERVIEW POST. This means that, for this post, I’ve interviewed someone and I want to share the conversation with you guys.

So let me introduce a fellow fashion style blogger, Vinita Mohan. Her page is Vin’s Look Book (www.vinslookbook.com). I started following her blog because we share the same thoughts about fashion.

Here goes!

(K-Konni, V-Vinita)

K: Hi! Could you introduce your blog, Vin’s Look Book, and tell us a little about yourself? What’s your fashion style?
V: Vin’s Look Book strives to give you the best of the fashion world in the most creative way possible.
It aims to inspire you to try something new and provide solutions to common outfit Faux-pas.
Get ready to find outfit inspiration and learn of new trends while playing around with existing trends to make them your own.
Never follow a trend just because it looks good on some one else, follow it because it makes you look good.
Fashion is art you can wear, so create a stunning outfit everyday. 🙂
vlb2
K: Why did you start a fashion blog?
V: As a child I would make rough sketches of girls in pretty dresses. The models I drew always ended up looking like pudgy rag dolls, they are a bit embarrassing to look at now. But I loved taking the time out to think up of new patterns and designs to put on their dresses.
As I grew up, my sketching skills got better and I wanted an outlet to display my creativity. That’s when I turned to blogging.
K: Who is your inspiration?
V: I believe in setting trends, so I don’t try to copy anyone. However there are some people who’s style I admire.
My fashion icons are Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana and Jessica Alba. This may sound like a strange combination, but I admire women of elegance.

K: What do you think ‘fashion’ is? What do you really believe ‘fashion’ is?
V: Fashion has played an important role in history , culture and heritage. It reflects the progress that man has made from times in memorial. We can learn so much from the wardrobe of our ancestors.
However I believe that fashion is a form of self expression. I love to express myself through my clothes.I have a unique style of dressing, glamorous, but not over done. 🙂
K: What is your opinion on fashion magazines and high-class designers defining a certain look to be ‘fashionable’, and a certain look to be ‘unfashionable’?
V: That is a good question.Honestly, whether something is fashionable or not depends on the person wearing the outfit. The term ‘fashionable’ is highly subjective and can vary from person to person.

(image above: Prada x Damien Hirst Entomology Bag)
K: These days, designers are starting to collaborate with artists to create pieces. What is your opinion on this? What do you think about ‘fashion’ merging with ‘art’?
V: I love to say that fashion is art that you can wear. This is because you can play with colors and textures to create an outfit. So fashion is not merging with art, but rather it is a form of art.
K: You sometimes host giveaways. What do you usually give for ‘giveaway’ events? Do you have any advice for other bloggers(like myself) on how to arrange a ‘giveaway’?
V:  I’m glad you asked. In fact, after hosting successful giveaways, I decided to create a how to guide for other bloggers who would like to host their own giveaways. In this guide I cover every aspect of a giveaway. From selecting a prize to promoting the giveaway and selecting a winner.Be sure to check it out here: http://vinslookbook.com/host-a-successful-giveaway

K: What do you think of Konni Kim Designs? (What you like about this blog, improvements that could be made, etc.)
V: You know what, you have a very professional looking blog, maybe you should be giving me some pointers. 🙂
Keep up the great work, I love your posts so far. You should consider joining bloglovin, you will get more readers from there.
Hmm, as for any other advice, all I can say is keep promoting your blog. That is vital.
K: What advice would you give to bloggers like myself? How can we reach more people?
V: The best advice I can give bloggers is that you must have unique content. The best way to do that is to express your own opinions and ideas in your blog. Never copy another person’s posts. As for reaching more readers, I suggest using your social networking sites like facebook and twitter to interact with your readers. Don’t just post updates of new posts on your blog, give your readers other interesting things to read as well. Perhaps an interesting article or a beautiful photograph. Anything that is relevant to your blog.
vlb4
K: Last but not least, I want to ask you a totally out-of-the-blue random question! : )
What do you think Victoria’s secret is?
V: Victoria’s Secret is ……. there is no secret. That is the best kind of secret. 😛
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Lexington Armory, New York, America - 07 Nov 2012
That’s the end of the interview!
I’d like to say a huge Thank You to Vinita for answering my questions and helping me put together this post! : )
And another huge Thank You to all of you that support me and Konni Kim Designs. THANK YOU
xoxo, K.

Past trends of 2013 -A walk down memory lane

SPRING/SUMMER

The 2013 Spring/Summer scene was all about cool. Not feminine and girly and vulnerable, but cool and unique.

01 3.1 Phillip Lim, Spring 2013

02Taylor Swift

Remember how everyone was wearing quirky sunglasses?

We were all trying to keep our baby pink, girly-girl side aside for a bit.

There were all sorts of unisex-looking pieces on the runway, from Bermuda shorts to short suits.

03

I personally love, love, LOVED it! I really enjoy turning down the ladylike-ness and just being laid-back and looking cool.

The patterns this spring were very ‘loud’, too. The colors clashed and bold stripes ruled the runway.

Black and white were in style again.

09

A few slits on the clothes here and there to show off some skin seemed to be trendy.

Notice the popping colors-bright red, bright yellow, bright green, and the big trousers and suits. And the sporty dresses.

FALL/WINTER

The bold look and the laid-back comfy look stayed on the runway in the later months of the year.

We could still see the big, slouchy trousers. But there was also some new stuff- beanies, high boots, classic patterns etc.

If Spring/Summer 2013 had statement sunglasses, Fall/Winter 2013 had statement outerwear!

Some classic tartan prints on the runway.

I love the one on the right. (image above)

Remember how whenever you flipped through your tabloids you saw all these celebrities wearing long-ass boots with long-ass shoelaces on them? And remember how we all wished we owned a pair of those sexy boots(Well, I did. Wish, I mean.)?

20Rihanna

Rihanna LOVED her thigh-high boots this past winter season. She was seen wearing them all over the place.

Turtlenecks and rounded shoulders were also a hit. (Both of which I personally disagree with.)

The New York collections used a lot of folk patterns, which I fell in love with instantly.

The world’s most beautiful handbags to brighten up your holiday season.

(All images on this post are from www.angelaroi.com)

I’m sitting at my dining table with my laptop, smartphone, and a pot of hot ramen. I was looking through my inbox, feeling great that I had 27 emails(although most of them were alerts about my accounts on fashion blogging communities), when I stumbled upon an email from Angela & Roi Handbags. They had sent me an email explaining their brand’s cause and their mission, Donate By Color, politely asking me for support.

Immediately, I felt my faith in humanity being restored.

Here are captured images of some of Angela & Roi’s handbags. (Captured from their website, http://www.angelaroi.com)

Angela & Roi is a handbag brand that combines fashion and philanthropy through colors.

Handbags are categorized into different colors, and each color represents a different medical issue. For every handbag sold, a portion of the profit is donated to charity(to a non-profit organization) by Angela & Roi.

“Handbags with a purpose” -as described on the Angela & Roi website.

Why not give your loved ones an Angela & Roi bag this winter holiday? Meaningful- for you, the receiver, and for other people out there who will be given hope to continue living.

Korea Style Week 2013

This is actually a topic I’ve been meaning to post about for months. Yes, months. After attending Korea Style Week 2013, which was held in COEX (in Gangnam-“gangnam style!”) I was determined to share the experience with you guys but I got caught up in a whirlwind of other things, and forgot all about my Korea Style Week photos downloaded on my pc. (Sorry about the lame excuse. But I’m a human too!)

To attend, I had to register online in advance(thankfully my friend informed me of the event on time). It was really simple, just a few clicks. I was super-excited.

There were heaps of stalls with designers from various backgrounds. I think most of them were from Fashion/Design Universities in Korea. I looked around at all the fashionable people. It made me so…content. I was surrounded by fashion!

The BEST thing about Korea Style Week was that the fashion was so fresh and new. Since a lot of the designers/sellers were from newer, not-as-well-known brands looking for publicity, I found that most of them were pretty young. I was able to have a taste of what the younger generation defined as “fashion”. I’ve seen plenty of the classics-designs from Chanel, Vera Wang, Michael Kors etcetc(you know the list). I’m sure everyone has. But the thing that draws them(and myself) towards events like Korea Style week is that we want to see fresh faces in the fashion industry. We want to see the start, the planting of the seed, since all we see in fashion magazines every day is the fruit attained after one’s long journey through fashion.

These oversized, sporty, hip-hop style tops were really popular among teens and people in their early 20s this year in Korea. I guess they do look hip.

50 Fashion Rules To Break Right Now

I agree with this post by another blogger… So inspiring!

StyleCaster

Your mama always told you never to wear black with brown or white after Labor Day—but fashion rules are meant to be broken, right?

We’re giving you permission to break all 50 of these old school rules.

50. Red and pink clash

Somewhere along the way, these two shades got a bad reputation, but when paired purposefully, they can actually look quite modern and eye-catching. To break this fashion rule, keep the red true, and add any shade of pink, from pastel to fuchsia.

49. Don’t wear white after labor day

Lame! As countless designers have proved during the past few seasons, white isn’t only appropriate when the weather gets cold, but also amazingly fresh and modern-feeling. One thing to keep in mind when tackling the white-in-winter trend: It’s all about the fabric. Lighter textiles such as white cotton, linen, canvas, and seersucker will surely look out of place during the chilly months of fall and…

The 6 Stages of Final Exams As Told by Harry Potter

Just something funny by another blogger : ) to make you laugh

As Told by Laura

1. Denial

Finals? Hahahahaha! Please. I’ve still got an entire week left. Do you have any idea what I can accomplish in that short amount of time? Seriously, there’s nothing to worry about. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna’ go paint my nails like little zebras.

2. Anger

Okay, it’s not like I’m mad about finals or anything, but seriously? A comprehensive test? How unfair is that?! And it’s worth, like, 96 percent of my grade. I’m too mad to study. School is so stupid. No, everything is stupid. LET’S START A REVOLUTION!

3. Procrastination

I’m just gonna’ go over to Tiffany’s for a quick study session. I always do my best work in groups. Oh, and Jennifer, Michael and Josh will be there too, but we’re definitely gonna’ get stuff done. Definitely…

4. Cramming

Okayokayokay. Two hours left until the test. I have four Redbulls in the fridge…

Marilyn Monroe

A lot of things and people inspire me, and one of my biggest inspirations for art is Marilyn Monroe. The best thing about her is that she was bold. She didn’t have to alter her true self to become the sexy, glamorous film icon that she was/is. She represents the 1940s femme fatale scene, which I personally love.

A piece that I created by scratching the black surface of the board to reveal the bronze-coloured metal underneath.
I intended for it to resemble Andy Warhol’s pop art piece of Marilyn(the one that accentuates her bold facial features).
